German Shepherd Dog Lover Gifts The German Shepherd dog is the thrid most popular dog in the United States according to AKC registrations. The German Shepherd is part of the herding group on the AKC (American Kennel Club). The name can be shortened to the acronym GSD or has other names that include: Deutscher Schäferhund, Schäferhund, or Alsatian. These dogs can come in long and short hair. They can come in a multitude of colors too, including the black and brown, black or white. The German Shepherd is extremely loyal to one family and extremely courageous making them good dogs for working with police, guarding, therapy and search and rescue. They are known to be extremely obedient. They make both a wonderful pet and a wonderful working dog.
